How To Use MT4 On Windows

Are you ready to start trading with the popular MT4 platform on your Windows computer? In this article, we will guide you through the essential steps to help you navigate and utilize the features of MT4 effectively. Let’s get started!

Launching MT4

Step 1: Locate the MT4 icon on your desktop or in your Start menu and double-click it to launch the platform. You can also search for MT4 in the Windows search bar to find and run the application.

Step 2: Upon launching MT4, you will be prompted to log in. Enter your account credentials provided in your Personal Area in MyZFX. If you don’t have an account yet, you can create a new demo account to practice trading with virtual funds.

Step 3: Navigating the Platform Once you’re logged in, you’ll find the MT4 platform with various sections. Familiarize yourself with these sections:

a. Market Watch: This section displays the available trading instruments and their current prices. Right-click in the Market Watch window to add or remove instruments.

b. Chart Windows: MT4 allows you to open multiple chart windows. To open a chart for a specific instrument, right-click on it in the Market Watch window and select “Chart Window.”

c. Navigator: The Navigator window provides access to various tools, indicators, and expert advisors. You can expand the categories to find the desired tools and indicators.

d. Terminal: The Terminal window shows your account information, including balance, equity, and open positions. It also displays a history of your trades.

Placing Trades

Step 4: To place a trade, follow these steps:

a. Select an instrument: Right-click on the instrument in the Market Watch window and choose “New Order” or double-click on the instrument.

b. Fill in trade details: In the Order window, set the volume (lot size), choose the order type (market, limit, stop), and specify the stop-loss and take-profit levels if desired.

c. Execute the trade: Click on the “Buy” or “Sell” button to execute the trade.

Utilizing Tools and Indicators

Step 5: MT4 provides a wide range of tools and indicators to aid your trading analysis. To access them:

a. Chart tools: At the top of the platform, you’ll find various drawing tools, such as trend lines, Fibonacci retracements, and shapes. Click on the desired tool and apply it directly on your chart.

b. Indicators: In the Navigator window, expand the “Indicators” category to explore different technical indicators. Double-click on an indicator to apply it to your chart.

Managing Your Trades

Step 6: To manage your trades, use the Terminal window:

a. Modifying trades: Right-click on an open position in the Terminal window and select “Modify or Delete Order.” Adjust the parameters as needed, such as stop-loss or take-profit levels, and click “Modify” to save the changes.

b. Closing trades: Right-click on an open position in the Terminal window and select “Close Order.” Confirm the closure of the trade.

Learning and Improving

Step 7: MT4 offers numerous resources for learning and improving your trading skills. Explore the “Help” section in the platform for tutorials and guides. Additionally, you can access educational materials, webinars, and forums provided by ZFX or other trusted sources.
